How the EZ Down works

Our patented lowering chamber design allows for gentle crop handling.

The fill cycle

The front of the chamber and the bag is shown see-through, so you can watch the potatoes inside.

  1. Animation still: potatoes come off your line

    Potatoes come off your line

The EZ Down sits at the end of your conveyor, with an in-feed that adjusts from 11 to 13.5 feet high.

  2. Animation still: a padded gate holds the first ones back

A padded gate holds the first ones back

Potatoes roll down a padded chute and stop against the in-feed gate after a short run, so they never pick up speed. Once enough have built up, the gate lifts.

  3. Animation still: the chamber lowers as it fills

The chamber lowers as it fills

Each potato lands on the ones already inside. As the pile builds, the chamber steps down a few inches at a time and takes the whole load toward the bottom of the bag.

  4. Animation still: the doors open at the bottom

The doors open at the bottom

Once the chamber is close to the bottom of the bag, the doors underneath swing all the way open and the potatoes settle out onto the floor of the bag.

  5. Animation still: the chamber climbs as the bag fills

The chamber climbs as the bag fills

Then it moves back up a little at a time. Potatoes roll out the bottom while more keep coming in at the top.

  6. Animation still: the line keeps running

    The line keeps running

When the bag hits its target weight or height, the in-feed gate closes and the chamber lifts out. Potatoes collect on the chute while you swap in an empty bag.

  7. Animation still: 50,000 lbs per hour

    50,000 lbs per hour

All from a machine that needs 48 by 65 inches of floor space. If you need more, the Big EZ handles up to 100,000 lbs per hour.

Two modes of operation

Speed mode

A continuous flow of product. The line keeps flowing even while you change out crates, big bags or totes.

Verify mode

A brief interrupted flow of product, so you can verify, tare, net or gross.

The five steps

  1. Diagram: potatoes enter the top of the in-feed chute

    Step 1

As product is delivered to the top of the in-feed chute, it begins to fill.

  2. Diagram: the chamber lowers as it fills

    Step 2

As the chute fills, the chamber begins to lower so that more product can be added.

  3. Diagram: the exit doors open near the bottom of the bag

    Step 3

When the chute reaches the bottom, the exit doors open and your product gently flows out.

  4. Diagram: the chamber moves back up as the bag fills

    Step 4

The chamber then moves back up in small increments, creating a smooth flow of product into the tote bag or pallet box.

  5. Diagram: the gate closes and the chamber retracts when the bag is full

    Step 5

When the container has reached the full point, the gate on the in-feed closes, the chamber retracts upward releasing its load, the bottom doors close and the cycle starts again automatically.
